YAKIMA - A marriage between agriculture research and software development is putting critical weather information at a farmer's fingertips.
A Yakima software firm, in cooperation with Washington State University's extensive weather monitoring network, is testing a system that will deliver weather and disease data to a farmer's cell phone.
Can dairy farms make the change to vineyards?
WARREN, Conn. - A winter breeze rustles through the brittle and dormant vines twisting along the hills of Bill Hopkins' vineyard, the latest transformation of a Connecticut farm that since 1786 has been keeping up with changing agriculture, markets and consumer tastes.
The 100-acre family farm on Lake Waramaug in western Connecticut's Litchfield Hills has raised sheep, race horses, tobacco, grain crops and dairy cows. Responding to falling dairy prices and the 24/7 demands of running a dairy business, Hopkins quit in 1979 after 25 years and established Hopkins Vineyard.
UI, WSU plan field day in Lewiston
University of Idaho and Washington State University Extension are planning a 4-H and FFA Field Day Saturday at the Lewiston Livestock Market.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and is open to all 4-H and FFA members and leaders. Cost is $6 per person and pre-registration is requested by Wednesday.
