Cougars get waxed by UW in second half

Washington State had a four-point lead at halftime, but that quickly disappeared in a disastrous second half as the Washington Huskies cruised to a 92-64 win in Seattle. WSU was outscored 56-24 after the intermission, as Quincy Pondexter and Isaiah Thomas had their way with 29 and 19 points, respectively, for the game. UW shot 62.5 percent in the second half (20 for 32), while WSU was at 22.9 percent (8 for 35).

According to Vince Grippi’s blog for the Spokesman, Klay Thompson did not start the game because he was tardy to a team event on Friday. That’s not the first time something like that has happened this season to the Cougars, as players were late for events before the Arizona State and Alaska-Anchorage games.

Thompson was on the floor for 31 minutes but struggled mightily — 2 for 15 from the field and seven points. His shot wasn’t falling from the outside, and he also missed some around the basket throughout the course of the game.

WSU, now 14-7 overall and 4-5 in the Pac-10, gets the Arizona schools at home next week on Thursday (ASU) and Saturday (UA).
