There are a lot of good causes out there, and selling cookie dough, washing cars or auctioning items are popular ways to raise money for them. I recently heard about an interesting one that involves women and writing.
The YWCA in Lewiston is publishing a book called “Inspiring Women,” which will contain personal stories about women who have influenced, inspired, nurtured or transformed someone’s life.
If you would like to have a story published in the book, you can do so by donating $300 and writing a 250-word essay. The money that’s raised will go toward providing services for women and children in this region and updating the YWCA’s building on Main Street, said Wendy Diessner, director of operations.
Any female can be honored. She may be from this area or live far away. She could be a relative, teacher, personal hero, coworker or friend. The deadline for stories, photos and pledges is June 30, 2010. Copies of the book will be given to each donor and local libraries; some will be available for sale.
For more information about the Inspiring Women project, you can contact Diessner at (208) 743-1535, ext. 414.
