I caught this steelhead (a hatchery male) way back in October 1991. I was in a drift boat owned and rowed by Bill Loftus of Genesee and we were on the Clearwater River above Potlatch Corp.
It was an absolutely gorgeous fall day, and it was my first time steelhead fishing. It was catch-and-release only, but Bill measured my fish and it was 38 inches long, and he figured it to be about 18 pounds.
We hooked three or four other fish that day, but this one was the biggest. I called it beginner's luck. What a great way to start off.
