A front-page photo in todays Lewiston Tribune has landed a Clarkston man in jail.
According to Clarkston police, a Lewiston Tribune employee alerted police about 3 a.m. this morning that the person featured in a front-page photo in todays newspaper matched another front-page photo of a man suspected of stealing a wallet.
Police Chief Joel Hastings said a Clarkston officer obtained a copy of todays paper, and saw a photo of a sign painter, Michael Millhouse, which was similar to the photo of the suspect.
Officer Jeremy Maguire contacted Millhouse, who initially denied he took the wallet, police said. Millhouse later said he took it because he thought it was his wifes, and he also said he intended to turn it in but he had forgotten about it, according to the police report.
The wallet allegedly was found at his business, 513 Main St., Lewiston. The owner of the wallet, Jami Johnson of Lewiston, said the wallet contained $600, her drivers license and Social Security card, plus three credit cards.
The money was gone, but the credit cards and license were still there, police said. Millhouse was arrested on a charge of theft and taken to jail, Hastings said. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond, which was set Thursday morning in Asotin County Superior Court.
Millhouse was charged with second-degree theft, a felony, and is scheduled for a hearing Monday, according to Asotin County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Nichols.
