9:52 a.m.: Asotin police chief resigns

May 15, 2009, 9:52 am

ASOTIN -- Asotin Police Chief Lee Reed resigned Thursday afternoon, said Mayor James Miller.

"He did not state any reasons to us for his resignation," Miller said, when reached via phone in Seattle Friday morning.

Attempts are being made by the Lewiston Tribune to reach Reed for comment.

Miller said the city will begin the process of making a selection for the police chiefs permanent replacement.

"We will be appointing a replacement to serve in a temporary capacity, but that interim replacement has not been identified at this time," Miller said. "I'll be discussing that with the public safety committee in the coming days."

Reed has been the police chief in Asotin for four years. He was recently under investigation by the Washington State Patrol in reference to a foster child, but no charges were filed in the case.
