Seven of 10 Series spots filled

Friday, May 16

Two more NAIA World Series berths were determined Thursday, leaving just three spots to be filled for the national tournament that begins one week from today at Harris Field.

Jamestown, N.D., claimed the Plains Super Regional by beating Bellevue, Neb., 12-6 in the third and deciding game. And Spring Arbor, Mich., last year’s Series runner-up, earned a return trip by finishing a two-game sweep of Saint Xavier, Ill., in the Heartland Super Regional with a 10-4 victory.

In the two other super regionals that were decided Thursday, the West Coast and Atlantic South losers, Azusa Pacific, Calif., and Embry-Riddle, Fla., respectively, received at-large berths.

A third at-large is available, because Lewis-Clark State’s host berth will go unused since it won the West Coast. Unless Oklahoma City drops the next two games to Missouri Baptist and loses the Mid-South Super Regional, the last at-large will go to Bellevue.
