Terry J. Race passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at his home in Clarkston, of terminal lung cancer.
Terry was born Dec. 8, 1940, in Douglas, Wyo., to Ruth Krassow and Walter Race. He graduated from high school in Douglas in 1957.
He was a cook and worked in the culinary industry for 45 years, in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Colorado and Oregon before settling in Washington.
He was a daddy, a husband, everyone's papa, a brother and friend. He traveled through life, never without a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He was a Catholic. While living in Valdez, Alaska, he was a longtime member of the Lions Club. He loved nature. It was nothing for him to say, "Let's circle the wagons, we're burning daylight!" and pack up everything, including the kitchen sink, and go camping or fishing with all the family. Family was his life. He loved to laugh and make anyone's day brighter. The memories we have of him will always be treasured and held close to our hearts.
Terry is survived by his daughter, Tina Race; his wife, Hope Race; his sisters, Sally Bowey, Moneta Westberg and Wally Foster; his sons, Rick and Jim Taylor; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was father to Randy Thompson, since her own father lives in Florida. Many of Tina's friends also adopted him as their dad.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dallas Race; his mother, Ruth Krassow; and sister, Carmen Herbel.
No services will be held at his request. Mountain View Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Tri-State Hospice in Clarkston.
