Christine F. Schrader was born Jan. 29, 1951, at Encino, Calif., to Jack and Barbara French. She died Saturday, May 3, 2008, from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
Her treatment journey started January 2007. In June 2007, she underwent a stem cell transplant at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her battle with cancer was courageous and she remained positive throughout her treatment.
Christine French married John Schrader on March 6, 1971, at Encino. They had been married 37 years.
Since 1993, Chris owned and operated Appearances in the same building with her friend Teresa Curl. It was often said Chris never charged for her electrolysis, facials or permanent makeup, but made her money for offering sage advice about husbands, boyfriends, children and work. She was deeply touched that she received more than 200 cards from former clients and friends offering hope and encouragement throughout her illness.
She had many close girlfriends, whom she got together with monthly for "birthday club." She cherished her friendships. Chris had a very witty sense of humor and could make most any situation humorous.
Chris had the opportunity to travel, visiting such places as Europe, Hawaii, Belize, Mexico, Guatemala and her favorite trip, Thailand. She also enjoyed her recreational vehicle trips both up the Lochsa and the Washington coast. She loved her miniature schnauzers and was usually seen with Max and Ruby traveling "B" loop at Wilderness Gateway campground.
Chris leaves behind her husband, John, at the family home; son, Ryan; daughter, Darcie and husband Brent Teats; and grandchildren, Camille and Dawson, whom she thought the world of. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy of Pine Mountain, Calif.; and brother, John of Calabasas, Calif.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Midence and the Cancer Center, and the compassionate staff of Tri-State Home Health. She truly appreciated all of you.
A service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.

I write this note with a sad heart. I have known Chris for many years, altho it has been a while since we saw one another. She would light up the room with her smile and sense of humor. John, I didn't know of Chris' illness until now or I would have been one of those many cards of support and love for this wonderful lady. May God keep you safe.

I met Chris when we were both working at the Bon Marche back in the early 80's. She was so much fun to be around--really enjoyed her sense of humor. The world has lost a very special person. My deepest sympathy to her family.
