Tonight

CLARKSTON - Paintings by three artists will be shown in an exhibit that opens with a reception this afternoon at the Valley Art Center here.

The reception, from 4 to 7 p.m., will feature refreshments, including light appetizers.

Artists showing their works are Dana Aldis of Lewiston, Aaron C. Johnson of Moscow and Diana Moses Botkin of Bonners Ferry. Their show continues through Sept. 3.

The art center is at 842 Sixth St. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Friday

LEWISTON - Jo Dee Messina will bring her brand of country music to the Clearwater River Casino event center here Friday beginning at 8 p.m.

Tickets range in price from $20 to $75, and are available through TicketsWest.com or at the casino box office.

Messina's last album was 2014's "Me" which she released on her own label, Dreambound Records, and which was paid for by an online fundraising campaign, according to her official website.

The casino is at 17500 Nez Perce Road, east of Lewiston, along U.S. Highway 95/12.

Saturday

LEWISTON - Tara Thompson, a self-described "hillbilly from East Tennessee," will play at 8 p.m. Saturday at Boomtown American Saloon here.

Thompson, a cousin of country star Loretta Lynn, was raised in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, according to her offficial website. She plans to release a full-length album later this year.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the show, with a $5 increase in each price for VIP seating.

Tickets are on sale now at GNC in Lewiston, Moscow and Pullman, and Boomtown, 516 Main St.

Sunday

COTTONWOOD - The 24th annual Raspberry Festival features a variety of family friendly events throughout Sunday at the Monastery of St. Gertrude here.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with a fun run/walk and a pancake breakfast. Other events during the day include a kids' carnival, arts and crafts fair, car show, art show, vintage sale, exhibits and tours.

One of the most important aspect of any community festival is the food, and it will be served from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the front lawn. The menu will feature hamburgers, barbecue beef sandwiches, hot dogs and, of course, raspberry shortcake and raspberry lemonade.

Live music by various artists will be performed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday

LEWISTON - The Working Poor, a five-member band from the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, will play a free show from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College here.

The lunchtime concert is outdoors on the Centennial Mall with food available for purchase.

The band, playing Americana and alternative country folk, includes members Daniel Mark Faller on lead vocals and guitars; Cris Peterson on guitars, mandolin, fiddle and vocals; Bruce Grimoldby on bass guitar and vocals; Brian Davies on pedal steel guitar; and Doug Lopes on drums and vocals.

Wednesday

MOSCOW - "Zhou Yu's Train," a free Chinese Movie Night screening, will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center here.

The showing is sponsored by the University of Idaho Confucius Institute and will feature a brief introduction by visiting South China University of Technology instructors who are specialists in Chinese cinema and film culture. The film will be followed by a discussion.
