Imagine what a fly on the wall at a drive-in might see: late boyfriends, cars, smeared lipstick and movies.
The Lewiston Civic Theatre will tie all these scenes together with songs from the past at "Jukebox Saturday Night at the Drive-in" which begins its run next Friday.
"It's like a little mini-soap opera," says Rod Farrington of Lewiston, who is directing the production with his wife, Ami.
During its annual musical revue of songs of yesteryear, the Lewiston Civic Theatre has taken theatergoers to a 1950s diner, a sock hop, a boardwalk and a city sidewalk.
For its fifth year it's delivering them to the drive-in.
Among the 32 songs to be sung and acted out during in two hours are, "Little Old Lady from Pasadena," "Time of the Seasons," "The Streak," "So Happy Together," and "Mrs. Robinson."
"It's songs everybody can relate to in some way ... It's a wonderful stroll down memory lane," Farrington says.
The band of 10 and cast of 45 started learning the script, which was specially written for the performance, along with the dozens of automobile, boyfriend/girlfriend and movie songs in June.
Shows will once again feature various guest stars from the community.
A mayor and chief of police have made appearances in the past.
This year the surprise singers will belt out "Born to be Wild."
Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand and Simon and Garfunkel will surface as well as Sonny and Cher, who have shown up in the "Jukebox" performance every year.
" 'Jukebox' is a blast. To get up there and sing those songs -- the audience dances and sings right along with you," says Farrington, who was co-director for three of the last five "Jukeboxes."
