An upscale restaurant in downtown Clarkston is going through a transition.

A sign posted outside the Red Table Steakhouse at 841 Sixth St. indicates the restaurant is moving to the waterfront. A message on its answering machine says the eatery will be closed while the change happens.

Exactly where the restaurant might locate is not clear. Messages left at the restaurant were not immediately returned.

The restaurant hasn't approached the Port of Clarkston, which controls a significant portion of the waterfront available for commercial development in Clarkston, said Wanda Keefer, the port's manager.

Jock Pring, who owns the building at 1550 Port Drive in Clarkston that houses Rooster's Landing in Clarkston, said late last week he couldn't comment on the matter.

Rooster's Landing is constructing a new location northwest of the Quality Inn in Clarkston next to the Snake River. Rooster's lease on Port Drive runs through December, Pring said.

Another possibility is a building Pring leases at Hells Gate State Park next to the Snake River south of Lewiston. The Red Neck Yacht Club is closed, Pring said. Pring continues to operate a convenience store and offer other services for boaters there.

The change for the Red Table comes less than a year after it shifted its format. The same owners previously ran Vesuvius, a night club at the same location that regularly featured live bands.

At the same time that the Red Table is moving, SunBean Coffee House, another downtown Clarkston business, has closed. Attempts to reach its owner, Jerry McConnell, were not successful.
