Blast from the Past / 1989: A silversmith in his workshop
C.H. "Bill" Ketcham sits at a workbench on his ranch near Grangeville in this Jeff A. Taylor photo published April 14, 1989, in the Arts & Entertainment section of the Lewiston Tribune. The accompanying story by reporter Kathy Hedberg focused on Ketcham's hobby of silversmithing. His work was "most likely to be seen decorating a fancy riding saddle or horse bridles and bits." Engraving a design into the metal with his diamond-tipped cutting tools was his favorite part of making his creations. "I like to engrave so well that I just can't wait to get out there (to his shop) and start engraving," Ketcham said. Though he sold many pieces, he estimated he gives away 90% of what he makes which also includes spurs, jewelry and belt buckles.
