PULLMAN - Washington State University's Writing Programs has received a 2007 Award for Innovation from the Conference on Basic Writing, a national collegiate organization aimed at aiding educators to teach effective written communications.
WSU received the innovation award for its English 102 course, a one-credit tutorial that employs skilled and specially trained student writers as peer tutors.
The conference judges viewed the WSU English 102 program to have broad applications and lauded its many student successes.
Writing Programs at WSU includes the Writing Center, Writing in the Major course support, and the Writing Assessment Program. Writing Programs is a core unit of the Office of Undergraduate Education and contributes to WSU's goal of providing the best undergraduate experience at a research university. English 102 is one of the outstanding first-year experiences available to WSU students.

MOSCOW - Two WSU student organists were chosen as winners of the annual Terry Jordan Organ Study Award competition held March 24 here.
Joe Sartori, a WSU music student, placed first in the competition with a $450 cash award and Denise Snider, a graduation teaching assistant in music at WSU, placed second with a $300 award. Both students were featured the following afternoon in the annual Terry Jordan Memorial Organ Recital at Moscow's First United Methodist Church. At the conclusion of this recital, the winners received their awards as well as student memberships in the American Guild of Organists.
The Terry Jordan Memorial Organ Study Award Competition is a partnership program between Moscow First United Methodist Church and the Pullman-Moscow Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. The award endowment fund was set up in memory of Terry Jordan, organist for eleven years at First United Methodist Church, who died in June 2000.

Jill Leonard Nach, a Lewiston High School graduate and Boise State University student, placed third in Spreadsheet Application and Analysis in the Business Professionals of America Idaho State Leadership competition at BSU.
She will attend the national BPA competition in May in New York City.
