A family celebration is being held today in Cottonwood to honor Sister Mildred Lustig of Cottonwood to mark her 90th birthday.

Esther Elizabeth Henrieta Lustig was born July 11, 1913, to Victor and Mary Lustig at their home in Greencreek. She attended school at Greencreek and St.

Gertrude's in Cottonwood.

She entered the Benedictine St. Gertrude's Convent (now the Monastery of St. Gertrude)in Cottonwood Nov. 1, 1931, and made her first profession of vows Aug. 16, 1933. She received the name Mary Mildred.

She taught elementary school in Idaho and Washington for 20 years and received a State Life Elementary certificate.

In 1953 she helped for a time in the medical records department at St. Benedict's Hospital in Jerome, Idaho. She returned to Cottonwood and set up the medical records department at St. Mary's Hospital and worked there for 23 years.

After leaving the hospital, she worked for several months caring for children in Boise and later for others who were homebound. She has retired and lives at the monastery.
