Washington lists Pomeroy on state heritage register
POMEROY -- Downtown Pomeroy has made it onto the Washington Heritage Register, according to a local group.
The Pomeroy Historic Preservation Commission began seeking the designation in May last year,
and it was awarded at the June meeting of the Washington Historical Preservation Office in Bellingham.
"The Washington Heritage listing is the next-to-last step for our national historic district," said Beverly L. Adams-Gordon, chairwoman of the Pomeroy commission.
The town also has been seeking a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
Pomeroy's historic district, which runs primarily along Main Street, includes 43 buildings that are architecturally intact and deemed historic by the state's architectural historian.
