The hazy conditions in the Lewiston Clarkston Valley have not risen to a level where a health advisory would be issued and should dissipate by Sunday, according to an air-quality analyst from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.

"It's a combination of haze and smoke under stagnant air," said Janson Cregger.

He said morning inversions are trapping cooler hazy air at low elevations. As the day warms and heats the low elevation air to the mid to upper 90s, the haze dissipates. Cregger said Thursday's haze is likely as bad as it will get, and the condition should moderate by Sunday when cooler temperatures are forecast to arrive.

He said the smoke appears to be coming from large wildfires in Alaska and Canada.

"I anticipate this is going to be gone by Sunday at the latest and return to normal air quality."
