Other teachers revive teacher in cardiac arrest

REDMOND, Wash. - When a 54-year-old music teacher collapsed in cardiac arrest while teaching at a school in the Seattle suburb of Redmond, his fellow teachers sprang into action to revive him.

Redmond Fire paramedic Mike Hilley said one of the teachers who responded Thursday is the instructor for CPR and portable defibrillator courses at The Overlake School. Teachers and staff quickly gave the stricken man CPR and "shocked" him into what Hilley called "a survivable cardiac rhythm." Arriving medics stabilized him and took him to Evergreen Hospital and Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition.

Hilley said the health teacher who teaches the courses at the school and the teachers who helped out had never seen a cardiac arrest.

Still, the paramedic said, "this group of teachers and staff definitely saved the life of their co-worker."

The music teacher wasn't immediately identified.

Girl, 14, sought; believed with boyfriend

KENNEWICK - Police in Kennewick are trying to find a 14-year-old girl last seen leaving her school and getting into her boyfriend's green Ford Escape SUV.

The Tri-City Herald reported that police believe Elizabeth Romero could be in danger. She is believed to be with 19-year-old Edwardo Flores Rosales.

Police said the girl's mother contacted them Wednesday afternoon after her daughter did not return from school. Sgt. Ken Lattin said the girl was last seen getting into her boyfriend's vehicle about 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phoenix High School.

Officers said the girl's mother received a text message Thursday from an unknown phone number from someone claiming to be Elizabeth and saying she was headed to Mexico with her boyfriend.

An Amber Alert was issued Thursday afternoon.
