Man commits suicide at gun-safety class

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Police are investigating after a 50-year-old man committed suicide during a gun-safety class at a Bellevue shooting range.

Seattlepi.com reported that Brian J. Parry shot himself in the head with a pistol Sunday during a class at West Coast Armory, a gun range and dealer with outlets in Bellevue and Issaquah. More than a dozen people reportedly were present.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office earlier this week ruled Parry's death a suicide. Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said the investigation is ongoing.

According to West Coast's website, the gun range offered an entry-level handgun course the day of the shooting.

State high court rejects serial killer's petition

SPOKANE - The state Supreme Court has rejected a petition from Spokane serial killer Robert Yates.

The court on Thursday dismissed Yates' petition, ruling that none of his claims of error merited review or a hearing.

Yates was convicted in 2000 of 13 counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in Spokane County, and in a plea deal was sentenced to 408 years in prison. But the next year he was sentenced to death for two murders in Pierce County.
