Clarkston man injured in dump truck accident

MALDEN, Wash. - A Clarkston man is in critical condition after a dump truck backed over the edge of a gravel pit near Malden in Whitman County.

A news release from the Whitman County sheriff's office said Kyle D. Phillips, 21, of Clarkston, was operating a large Caterpillar Pit dump truck Monday when the truck backed over the edge of a pit, fell approximately 20 feet and landed on the vehicle's top.

Phillips was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane by MEDSTAR air ambulance.

Further investigation will be conducted by Mining Safety and Health Administration.
