Conrad L. Luvaas, 85, a lifetime Moscow resident, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village in Moscow of causes related to age.
Conrad was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Moscow to Bert and Martha Dahl Luvaas. He was the youngest of 15 children. Conrad grew up and attended school in Moscow, graduating from Moscow High School in 1936. He attended the University of Idaho for several years following high school.
Conrad enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1944.
Conrad married Jeanette Sandstrom April 9, 1943, in Arkansas. Following his discharge, they returned to Moscow, where they made their home. Conrad operated a service station in town for a number of years. He later went to work for the Mark P. Miller Co. and later the Latah County Grain Growers as an assistant manager, later becoming manager. Conrad retired in 1983.
He loved his family immensely. Conrad was an avid Vandal fan and belonged to the Vandal Boosters. He was also a car buff at heart. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was involved in the building process at the church. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, at the family home; a daughter, Jeanne Shellberg and her husband, Marty, of Roseburg, Ore.; a son, Dennis Luvaas and his wife, Kathy, of Boise; two grandsons, Erik Luvaas of Moscow and Scott Luvaas of Boise.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his 14 brothers and sisters.
Viewing is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Vault interment at the Moscow Cemetery will follow the luncheon.
The family suggests memorial donations to the church or Good Samaritan Village.
