NEZPERCE -- The Prairie Area Crops and Conservation Tour is July 24 in Nezperce.
Participants will meet at the Nezperce School parking lot at 1 p.m. and bus transportation is provided. The tour will conclude at about 5:30 p.m.
The tour features a dinner that includes a "Meet the Dean" event with Michael Weiss,
the new dean of the UI College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS).
The barbecue dinner will be at Winchester State Park, starting at 6 p.m.
The tour allows producers and other interested persons the opportunity to view agricultural field research in this area. Tour stops include variety trials for peas, lentils, spring wheat and barley, and winter wheat.
The group also will look at a Clearfield/Beyond tolerance study, winter wheat breeding nursery, ARS spring barley development trial and conservation practices.
CCA and pesticide recertification credits are applied for.
The day fee is waived for persons driving in their personal vehicles. The tour bus will return to Nezperce after the dinner. Those wanting to attend are asked to preregister for the dinner by July 21 by calling 937-2311 or 983-2667.
