Lewiston resident Doris E. Richards will be honored with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. next Sunday at Lewiston First United Methodist Church. The occasion is her 90th birthday.
She was born on a farm near St. John, Wash., Feb. 9, 1906, to Salem and Isabelle Bageant. They moved to Colfax in 1912, where she graduated from high school in 1924. She attended Washington State College (now Washington State University) at Pullman and Northwest Business College at Spokane.
She moved to Lewiston to become a bookkeeper in an automobile business owned by her father.
She married Clyde H. Richards Aug. 30, 1930. She began working for the Sacajawea Council of Campfire Girls in 1951 as office manager and later became executive director a position she held for 24 years.
Her husband died in 1974.
She is a member of First United Methodist Church and the Alice Whitman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoys flowers, taking care of plants and playing bridge.
She has three daughters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her family will serve as hosts of the celebration.
