A Clarkston Heights woman was uninjured Thursday after accidentally crashing her pickup truck through her garage and into her house.
Asotin County Fire District No. 1 Chief Noel Hardin said the elderly woman, whose name was not released, was reportedly pulling into her garage and mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake. The 2000s Chevrolet pickup truck smashed through the wall of the garage and into the house before stopping in the living room area of the home.
Asotin County sheriff's deputies and fire district personnel responded about 4:30 p.m. to the accident on the 2600 block of 17th Street in the Clarkston Heights.
Tire tracks led from the end of the home's driveway to a gaping hole in the garage wall, and items were scattered about the garage floor.
Hardin said there was significant structural damage to the house, but he was unsure of the extent. A damage estimate wasn't known Thursday night. The front end of the pickup truck was dented, and the windshield was cracked. The garage door was open at the time of the accident, Hardin said.
The visibly shaken woman was checked for injuries in an ambulance on the scene but was not injured. The woman's husband arrived at the home a short while later but declined to talk to the Tribune.
Fire district personnel stayed on the scene for more than an hour to assess the damage and try to determine how to get the pickup truck out of the house. The vehicle was still drivable, so firefighters decided about 5:30 p.m. to drive the pickup truck back out of the house.
