CHUBBUCK, Idaho - Police in eastern Idaho have identified a man who was shot and killed by officers after apparently taking someone hostage in a Chubbuck Petco store.

The Idaho State Journal reported that Bradley Allen Wilson, 30, died Thursday night after an officer shot him in the neck. The hostage was unharmed.

Pocatello police received a request to check on Wilson's welfare earlier that evening, and whey they found him in a parked car, Wilson pulled out a gun and sped away, said Randy Severe, Chubbuck police chief.

A chase ensued, and though officers lost sight of the vehicle for a time, they got a call a short time later reporting that someone had taken a man hostage at the Petco store in Chubbuck.

Officers from the Pocatello and Chubbuck police departments, the Idaho State Police and the Bannock County Sheriff's Office responded. Severe said that when Wilson emerged from the store with the hostage, an officer with the Bannock County Sheriff's Office determined the hostage was in imminent danger and shot Wilson in the neck, killing him.

The shooting is under investigation, per the department's policy for all officer-involved shootings.

Because the shooting involved an officer, an outside law enforcement agency will investigate, said Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen. The Bingham County Sheriff's Office will head the investigation, Nielsen said.
