PORTLAND, Ore. -- An inmate who conned his way out of a Montana jail in November has been arrested on attempted murder charges in Oregon, officials said Wednesday.

Gary L. Phillips was booked into the Multnomah County jail in Portland, said Lt. Mike Shults of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested Phillips early Dec. 22, after a male caller reported that his roommate had tried to choke him.

He was booked in Multnomah County jail the same day on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, as well as Montana fugitive charges.
