BUTTE, Mont. - Idaho law enforcement officials arrested a man Wednesday wanted in a triple shooting in southwestern Montana that left one man dead and two hospitalized.

Investigators tracked Tony Sawyer's cellphone to Idaho Falls, where he was arrested without incident by Bonneville County Sheriff's Department officers, Butte-Silver Bow County Sheriff Ed Lester said.

Sawyer, 48, faces one count of deliberate homicide and two counts of attempted deliberate homicide. He was being held on $1 million bond, The Montana Standard reported.

Authorities were searching for the gunman in a shooting that happened on Fish Creek Road, southwest of Whitehall, about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency responders found one man dead with a gunshot wound to his head.

The name of the 37-year-old victim was being withheld pending family notification. The two other victims, one 23 and the other 38, were treated and released from a hospital in Butte.

Police said they believe Sawyer recently arrived in Montana from Texas, and the four men were traveling together on Fish Creek Road, authorities said.

Their car became stuck in a remote area, Lester said. Once they freed the vehicle, Sawyer started shooting, the wounded men told police.
