Lewiston School Board will look at summer programs

The Lewiston School Board will review a host of summer education programs as well as maintenance projects for the coming year at its regular meeting today.

The 7 p.m. meeting will be at the district board room, 3327 12th St.

School administrators recommend the board approve $635,000 in building and maintenance projects for the 2007-08 fiscal year. These include $100,000 for remodeling the restrooms at Jenifer Junior High School, $80,000 for a freezer at Sacajawea Junior High School and $225,000 to replace the water system at the Tammany Alternative School.

The board will review recommendations to offer summer school at Northwest Children's Home, the Tammany Alternative School, Jenifer and Sacajawea junior high schools, and Lewiston High School. It is estimated 255 students would be served by the programs.

The board will set a date for the annual budget hearing and will entertain a recommendation to increase activity fees at Lewiston High School. The increase would be from $30 to $35.

Clarkston School Board will appoint new member

The Clarkston School Board will appoint a director to the board for District 5 at its regular meeting today.

The 6 p.m. meeting will be at the district office board room, 1294 Chestnut St.

The board will review policies concerning child abuse, jury duty and system of funds and accounts, hearing a second reading on each.

The board also will hear reports on the Elementary Educational Alternative Center, AmeriCorps, the District Learning Improvement Council and the request from the Lewis-Clark Early Childhood program to place a modular at Parkway Elementary School as new housing for the program.

Kindergarten registration starts today in Clarkston

Kindergarten registration for the Clarkston School District will begin today and continue to April 30.

Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31 should register at the elementary school they will be attending in the fall. Each school will be taking registrations from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today through Friday. Parents must bring the child's birth certificate and immunization record.

During registration, parents will make an appointment for the Kindergarten Round-Up in May. At the round-up, children will be given hearing and vision screening, and will be evaluated for gross and fine motor skills, concepts, and speech and language skills.

Informational meeting set on Running Start program

An informational meeting on the Running Start program for Clarkston High School juniors and seniors will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walla Walla Community College, Clarkston Center.

The program allows students to take college-level courses for dual credit.

Book Fair scheduled at Clarkston school

Clarkston's Parkway Elementary School is having a "Buy One Get One Free" Book Fair Wednesday through Friday.

The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Parents are invited to attend a "Lunch with a Look at Books" at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and "Breakfast with Books on the Side" at 8 a.m. Friday. Parents planning on eating with their child are asked to call (509) 758-2553 to let the school know they will attend.
