A 41-year-old Lewiston man was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation following an altercation with police at his home.

Police were called to the 500 block of Linden Drive in Lewiston around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday because a dispute between neighbors was reportedly becoming physical. Lewiston Police Department Sgt. Jeff Klone said the officers who responded attempted to contact one of the men involved, but he was uncooperative. The man then attempted to run inside his apartment, Klone said, and was allegedly kicking and throwing things at officers.

Klone said the man then allegedly barricaded himself in his apartment, and after several attempts to get him to come out, police forced their way inside. The man was then taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for an evaluation, Klone said.

No one was injured in the incident, which lasted about an hour and a half.
