COLFAX Mayme West, 92, a longtime Colfax and Palouse resident, died Wednesday of a heart attack at her home here.
She was born April 25, 1903, at Niotose, Kan., to Ura Efferson and Pearl Huffman Ellis. They moved to Noxon, Mont., when she was about 7. She graduated from high school there.
After receiving a teaching degree from Eastern Washington College at Cheney, she moved to Ronan, Mont., where she taught school for two years. She moved to Washtucna, Wash., where she taught for two years.
She married Everett West June 19, 1929, at Ronan and they lived at Washtucna. She was primarily a homemaker.
In the late 1930s they moved to Colfax and lived there for two years before moving to Benge, Wash. They moved to Palouse in 1952 and returned to Colfax in the mid-1970s.
Her husband died in 1984 and she continued to live at Colfax.
She was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Folsom of Colfax; one sister, Eva Lindsay of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
One son, Everett H. West Jr., and one brother, Salon Ellis, died previously.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Bruning Funeral Home at Colfax with the Rev. Glenn Peterson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.
