MOSCOW - A 50-year-old Moscow man was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver, according to police.

Kristian Lee Nelson was leaving the Corner Club near downtown Moscow just before noon when a red Dodge Durango turned into the bar's parking lot and struck him, Assistant Moscow Police Chief David Duke said.

"He had exited out the north door and was attempting to walk up the roadway in a northeast direction when the Durango, coming south, made a turn into the parking lot area and they collided," Duke said.

Police located the Durango's owner, who works in the nearby Grange Building, Duke said. She was interviewed at the police station to determine who was driving at the time of the accident. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon.

No one apparently witnessed the accident. A passerby noticed Nelson lying in the parking lot, and called 911 when he discovered Nelson was seriously injured.

Duke said Nelson was unconscious when an ambulance arrived, but he didn't have an official time of death.

Duke was at the accident scene with Latah County Prosecutor William Thompson Jr. and Coroner Catherine Mabbutt processing evidence for most of the afternoon.

If any charges are filed, they will probably be announced sometime today, Duke said.
