MOSCOW — Nine University of Idaho seniors in the Margaret Ritchie school of Family and Consumer Sciences will have their capstone projects on display from April 29 to May 10 at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center at 411 St. Main St.
The capstone project challenges UI seniors to choose a theme and design four different looks. Themes this year include an apparel collection in the Ojibwe tradition, vintage Pyrex glassware and adaptive apparel designed from a model missing her arms.
“All nine have really different consumers and really different lines,” said Lori Wahl, senior instructor of the project. “There are no two that are similar.”
Students are asked to incorporate ways to make their designs sustainable by minimizing waste, using scraps in their designs or making their garments biodegradable. The project’s intent is to showcase everything students learn throughout their time in the apparel, textiles and design program.
The designers who will be featured in the showcase include Chloe McDougal, women’s collection; Tess Richardson, men’s and women’s sportswear collection; Ellie Hafer, women’s sportswear collection; Juli Howell, women’s sportswear collection; Claire Smith, adaptive women’s business attire collection; Asiah Brazil-Geyshick, men’s and women’s outdoor wear collection; Avery Clark, women’s fashion sportswear collection; April Tetwiler, vintage-inspired women’s sportswear collection; and Emily Romanowski, lingerie/nightwear collection.
A closing reception will be hosted from 5-7 p.m. on the final day of the showcase. Designers will be on hand to answer questions about their projects and awards will be given.
