ASOTIN - Asotin County Sheriff John Hilderbrand released more information Thursday about the decomposing body found west of Clarkston earlier this week.
The remains, a headless torso and limbs, were discovered near Chief Timothy Park on Tuesday morning in debris at the edge of the Snake River. Authorities have yet to identify the individual. A size-9 pair of men's white New Balance tennis shoes were on the feet, and the denim jeans on the torso were waist size 36, with a 30-inch inseam.
"Based on the evidence, we believe it's likely a male's body and he was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall," Hilderbrand said.
Anyone who has information about a missing person matching the description can contact the sheriff's office at (509) 243-4717 or Whitcom emergency dispatch at (509) 758-2331.
The remains have been sent to the Spokane County Medical Examiner for forensic testing. Because the body was so badly decomposed, authorities at the scene were unable to make any conclusions about the person's identity or cause of death.
The sheriff's office has contacted neighboring jurisdictions in an attempt to determine whether the remains are linked to any missing person cases in the region.
