Idaho State Highway 162 from milepost 14 at the four corners to milepost 22 near the Kamiah city limits was reopened to traffic Tuesday night following mud and rock slides that happened Sunday.

Mark Pfeifer, public information officer for the Idaho Transportation Department at Lewiston, said the roadway was cleared of debris and opened to traffic.

Idaho State Highway 62, however, which runs from the north edge of Nezperce to Kamiah, remains closed from milepost 24 to milepost 30. That road received “significant damage” from the washouts and Pfeifer said earlier it could be weeks before the route is reopened.

Travelers between Nezperce and Kamiah are advised to use U.S. Highway 12 and U.S. Highway 95 as alternate routes.

Updates on the closures will be posted to 511.idaho.gov or travelers can dial 5-1-1 or download the app.
