A 22-year-old Lewiston man accidentally shot his right index finger with a .40-caliber pistol Saturday night, according to a Lewiston police report.

Police interviewed the man, whose name was not released, shortly before 10 p.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

He told police he was looking at his Hi-Point brand gun in his bedroom in the 600 block of 16th Street when he inadvertently pulled the trigger. The report states he said he did not realize the gun was loaded.

The bullet did not exit the house and was found in a broom closet in the kitchen.

No charges have been filed.
