Lawrence E. Henry, 47, Lapwai, driving while intoxicated, given a withheld judgment, sentenced to 30 days in jail, 28 suspended, driver's license suspended for 120 days, fined $750, $250 suspended and placed on probation for six months.

Fire Calls

Lewiston firefighters responded to a grass fire on the 3400 block of U.S. Highway 12 near the Flying J gas station about 5:45 p.m. Five firefighters put out the blaze within 20 minutes using one engine and a brush truck. The fire ignited in grass between the highway and the Clearwater River and was not near any buildings. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Firefighters with Clearwater Fire Service extinguished two fires in the rural Lewiston area. A combine fire in the Cougar Ridge area Tuesday evening was contained to the cab and motor area of the equipment. A fire Wednesday afternoon on Coyote Gulch Road burned 4 to 5 acres of grass. Firefighters were assisted by personnel from the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office, Nez Perce County Road Department, Nez Perce Tribal Fire Department and Genesee Rural Fire Department.

Crime Reports

A stereo system valued at $585 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Bruneel Tire Store in Lewiston.

Eight mature locust trees were reported poisoned on the 1700 block of Grelle Avenue in Lewiston. Holes were found drilled into the trees, and police speculate that poison was poured into the holes.
