Sheriff's office names inmate who died in custody in Lewiston

The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office identified the inmate who died at the Nez Perce County Jail Saturday as Austin L. Robins, 40, of Lewiston.

According to a news release, Robins was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday morning. Later that morning, when he appeared to be in distress, life-saving efforts were initiated by jailers and medical staff at the jail and medics from the Lewiston Fire Department were summoned. Robins was pronounced dead when medics arrived.

His death is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
