TWIN FALLS -- The Twin Falls County Board of Equalization supported county assessor Gerry Bowden's 2003 property value assessments of Amalgamated Sugar Co. and Seneca Foods at an appeals hearing called by the companies earlier in the week.

Bowden's assessments placed Amalgamated's property value at $33,

887,242. The company said it was worth $12,441,393. Seneca's value was placed by Bowden at $16,082,284. Seneca's estimate came in at $3,650,000.

The board's decision could bring in more than $786,000 in tax revenue to Twin Falls County. Going off the companies' version of their assessments, a little over $65,000 would find its way to the county's coffers.

Amalgamated and Seneca Foods have 30 days to challenge the county's decision. Officials from Amalgamated Sugar say the company plans to do so, but Seneca Foods representatives were not available for comment, the Twin Falls Times-News reported.
