Thin sheets of ice shine along the north bank of the Clearwater River at Lewiston get shuffled and stacked by the current while slowly melting in the slightly warming sunshine. Temperatures dipped into single digits for the first time this season Thursday in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, dropping as low as 9 degrees in the early morning hours. Those frigid temperatures were balmy, however, when compared with Lewiston¿s record low for Friday of 7 degrees set in 1919. Temperatures in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley are set to drop as low as 8 degrees tonight, with a low of 3 degrees Saturday night. The mercury could fall to 0 degrees on the Palouse tonight, according to the National Weather Service, with a low of -1 degree in Pullman Saturday night. The Camas Prairie, which is expected to see snow through tonight, will see a low of 4 degrees today, according to the weather service. Grangeville¿s thermometers could drop as low as -4 degrees Saturday night.
