ST. MARIES, Idaho An Oklahoma man was in fair condition Monday at Benewah Community Hospital after a one-car accident that left three people dead, a nursing supervisor said.
Burnard Dale Freer, 28, of Norman, Okla., swam to shore when the car he was driving skidded off the St. Joe River Road and plunged into the river Sunday, the Idaho State Police said.
Killed in the accident were Kellogg residents Roger Lee Siercke, 30, Debra Lynn Lewis, 21, and Brenda Mende, whose age was not available, Sgt. Clyde Kaffenberger said.
Kaffenberger said the car slid off the road on a curve and hit rocks, a small tree and a telephone pole before landing in 20 feet of water.
