WHITE BIRD -- A tour of the White Bird Battlefield, site of the first clash of the Nez Perce War of 1877, will be offered July 29 at 9:30 a.m.
The tour is presented by the Idaho County Historic Preservation Commission as part of a summer tour of National Register sites in Idaho County.
White Bird is about 100 miles south of Lewiston along U.S. Highway 95. The tour will begin north of town at the White Bird Battlefield Interpretive Shelter overlook.
An interpreter from the Nez Perce National Historical Park in Spalding will lead the two-hour walking tour.
The tour is free and participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, water and food.
The June tour was of the Clearwater Battle Field and officials are planning Florence for the August event.
