A 36-year-old man was taken to jail on felony charges of aggravated battery for allegedly striking two people in the face with a baseball bat, causing significant injuries to one man.

Raymond A. Scott Jr., listed as homeless, turned himself in to police at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Lewiston Police Department. The alleged incident took place around 8:30 p.m. Monday, when a woman reported to police that she was hit in the face with a baseball bat by a man she knew. She then informed police that another man had allegedly been battered in the same fashion, and she was afraid he was dead in his apartment.

Officers went to a residence on the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue in Lewiston to check on the man. When they were unable to get a response at the door, officers forced entry into the home and found the man covered with blood from a severe injury on the right side of his face. He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and had little recollection of what happened, according to the news release.

Lewiston Police Capt. Roger Lanier said in the release that Scott reportedly said he was too intoxicated the night of the alleged assault to remember what happened.

Scott is still in custody at the Nez Perce County Jail. A preliminary hearing had not yet been scheduled as of Wednesday evening.
