As we enter the second weekend of August, summer seems to be drawing to a close in the coming weeks. But there are many events around the region for those still willing to brave the heat. Temperatures are expected to be around the middle to high 90s all weekend.
TODAY
The 2013 Cable One Movies on the Wall will show "The Natural" at Pioneer Park in Lewiston.
The movie begins at 8:23 tonight at the park, 203 Fifth St. The movie is part of a six-week outdoor series.

ASOTIN - The Seaport Striders Benefit 5K Run is being held at Chief Looking Glass Park here.
The run is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight with check-in and late registration at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 and the first 100 registered runners will receive a water bottle. All proceeds will go to the high school cross-country programs at Asotin, Clarkston and Lewiston.

ELK CITY - The theme this year for Elk City Days, scheduled for today and Saturday here, is "Ropin' the Wild."
This evening's events include kids crafts and games from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the park, followed by the ping-pong ball drop at the airport at 4 p.m. The kiddie parade is at 5 p.m. on Main Street with a baseball game at 6 p.m. at the school ball field. A live band will play at 9 p.m. both days at Elk City Saloon. Fire department concessions will be available from 2 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Saturday events include a Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at the VFW Hall; the Alliance fly-in breakfast is from 7 to 10 a.m. at the airport. An annual quilt show is set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Church and a swap meet/flea market will be held at the airport during the same period. The grand parade is at 11 a.m. and the logging show starts at 1 p.m. at the EMT garage parking lot.
SATURDAY
ASOTIN - Asotin Days will include a breakfast, yard sale, and barbecue Saturday and Sunday here.
A Lions Club breakfast is from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. both days at Asotin City Park; a community yard sale is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with maps available at Asotin City Hall; and the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The museum is located on Filmore and Third streets. Sunday events also include the Chrome on the Creek car show from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city park and a Lions Club barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. in the park.

OROFINO - The fourth annual Clearwater Memorial Public Library benefit will have a theme of "Fiesta Del Sol" at the High Country Inn here.
The benefit begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a no-host cocktail hour with complimentary appetizers. A Mexican dinner will be served and there will be entertainment by Cathy Moore and Mike Riccomini. Cost is $25 and tickets are available a the Cleawater Memorial Public Library or by calling (208) 476-3411.

POTLATCH - The second "Evening At the Depot" concert is being held at the WI&M Railway Depot here.
P.J. Destiny will play classic rock from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the depot, 185 Sixth St. Cost is $10 and tickets are available at the Potlatch U.S. Bank or at the door. The event is for ages 21 and older. The concert is a fundraiser for the WI&M Railway History Preservation Group, a nonprofit and owner of the Potlatch Lumber Co. depot.

SPALDING - A Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party will be going on at the Nez Perce National Historical Park here.
The party is at 8 p.m. Saturday at the visitor center, and Lewis-Clark State College Professor Emeritus Victor Kriss will talk about the meteor shower and its origin. Those who plan to attend are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
SUNDAY
The Lewiston Eagles will have a luau. All money raised will be donated to local charities.
The luau is from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lewiston Eagles Lodge. Cost is $10 or $15 for all-you-can-eat.
