A 39-year-old Clarkston woman was arrested after allegedly stealing Christmas ornaments at a downtown store, running from employees and breaking an ankle after jumping off a retaining wall.
Cheri D. Delacruz was taken to Tri-State Memorial Hospital late Tuesday afternoon and extradited to Nez Perce County Wednesday on a felony warrant, according to a Clarkston police report.
Delacruz was in Schurman's True Value Hardware store on Clarkston's Sixth Street when store employees allegedly saw her put several items in her purse, including star lanterns and ornaments with a total value of $229. She left the business and was chased down the street by two employees. During the pursuit, she jumped off a retaining wall on the 700 block of Fifth Street and suffered injuries to her ankle, according to the report.
An ambulance took her to the hospital and she was arrested by Clarkston police on a third-degree theft charge. She spent Tuesday night at the Asotin County Jail and appeared before an Asotin County judge Wednesday morning. She was later taken to the Nez Perce County Jail on an unrelated felony warrant for burglary.
