Alfred R. Obenland, 104, Pomeroy

Alfred (Al) R. Obenland passed away at Pomeroy's Memory Manor Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the age of 104. Al was born Feb. 16, 1906, at Pomeroy to Chris Obenland and Dora Halterman Obenland. Al attended Pomeroy schools and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1925.

A lifelong resident of Pomeroy, Al was a very successful and respected businessman, owning and operating Obenland Furniture and Appliance until his retirement in 1968.

On Sept. 8, 1931, Al married the love of his life, Helen H. Blachly, a marriage that lasted 77 years. Helen passed away Oct. 22, 2008.

Following retirement Al and Helen traveled, played golf, but most of all, enjoyed life and each other.

Al was preceded in death by his wife Helen, son Don, and three brothers, Chester, Leslie and Kenneth. A sister, Marie Ruark, survives.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Richardson-Brown Funeral Home in Pomeroy.
