LEWISTON -- Arthur Lloyd (Butch) Boyer died Friday, April 6, 2007, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston after a courageous yearlong battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Ione, Wash., June 28, 1931, to Lloyd and Audrey Boyer. He lived in Oregon from sixth grade through high school and attended Oregon State University and the University of Idaho on basketball scholarships.
He was an Ironworker and worked on many of the dams and bridges in the area. His work took him as far away as California and Hawaii.
He loved sports; in addition to basketball, he enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. He also had a passion for his rose garden, which he worked in after retiring in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and one sister, Zelva Quimby.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Lewiston; a sister, Erma Deane and Dick Rantz of Bellingham, Wash.; his five children, Lynn and Dale Vallandigham of Asotin; Mike and Jane Boyer of Erie, Colo.; Blake and Sandy Boyer of Lewiston; Claire Boyer of Coeur d'Alene; and David and Jennifer Boyer of Lewiston. He had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
At his request, there was a private family service Monday.
