Caron S. Zachary, 74, surrounded by her family, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Caron was born Feb. 14, 1941, with twin sister Sharon, in Orofino, to Albert C. Spencer and Elsie Edwards Johnson.
Caron attended Kamiah schools. Caron married Phillip Lawyer Sr. on Sept. 28, 1956, and gave birth to one son, Phil Lawyer Jr. They later divorced. A second marriage to Herman Zachary ended with the death of Herman. They had one son, Jack Zachary.
Caron worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years in Plummer, Idaho, where she and husband, Herman Zachary, lived for many years. Caron loved spending time with her many Nez Perce senior families when she lived in Lapwai. She enjoyed spending times with them, doing puzzles or playing solitaire, attending area powwows and going on senior trips.
Caron is survived by two nieces, Sandy (Virgil Holt Sr.) of Lapwai and Marci (Henry Bailey) of Kamiah; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Phil Lawyer Jr. and Jack Zachary; parents Elsie Edwards Johnson and Albert C. Spencer; siblings Phillip Spencer, Kenny Spencer, Eileen Spencer and Shirley Eagle; twin sister Sharon Spencer; nephew Wendell L. Davis; uncle Edward Edwards; aunt Vera Edwards Corbett; and husband Herman Zachary.
A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. today at Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Second Presbyterian Church, Kamiah, with burial to take place at No Kid Lane. Dinner will follow at the Second Church dining hall.
