Dorothy (Dot) May Clanton, 99, of Moscow, died Aug. 2, 2013, at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow. Dot was born June 26, 1914, in Payette, Idaho, to Warren and Effie (Gregory) Miars.

Dot attended and graduated from Payette High School in 1932. She then attended the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho. After college she took her newfound knowledge of bookkeeping and moved to Gaithersburg, Md., where she lived with an aunt and worked in Washington, D.C., for the Department of the Comptroller. Dot later moved back to Idaho, settling in Boise, where she married her high school sweetheart, Art Clanton, on Feb. 11, 1938. They were married 65 years when Art passed away Sept. 15, 2003.

Dot and Art lived in Boise until Art joined the armed forces and they moved and lived in various places throughout the U.S. After Art was discharged, they returned to Boise until 1948, when they moved to Moscow. With Dot's eager help, Art began Moscow Insurance Agency, Moscow Realty and Moscow Appraisal. After the sale of the businesses, Art and Dot retired to their cabin in Harrison, Idaho. They resided in Harrison until 2000, when they moved back to Moscow to be closer to family.

Dot loved and enjoyed her family. She also liked to write short stories involving the history of the area (she had written a children's book), baking and cooking for her family. Dot loved all animals and was the happiest watching the birds and squirrels flock to her feeders each year. Dot was also a die-hard sports fan. The Mariners, Seahawks and Vandals caused Dot great joy and heartache throughout the years. She rarely missed watching or listening to a game in her life. Dot was a member of the historical society, and Crane Historical Society in Harrison. She also was active in church and various charitable organizations.

Dot is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Remington of Moscow; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Clanton of San Marcos, Calif.; three grandchildren, Tracy (Ray) Paz of Moscow, George Remington III of Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., and Stephanie (Troy) Remington of St. Maries, Idaho; one grandson-in-law, Shane Stavros of Coeur d'Alene; two great-grandchildren, Zack Stavros and Isabella Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews.
