Scott Knight died in a four-wheeler accident Aug. 4, 2013, at his home in Kamiah. He was 73.
He was born April 5, 1940, to Earl and Louise Knight in Cottonwood. He grew up on the family farm in the Glenwood area above Kamiah. Scotty and his sister, Marilyn, rode horseback to the Grandview school from the first through eighth grades. He attended high school in Kamiah. Scotty graduated from Kamiah High School in 1958 and attended a heavy equipment school in Weiser after high school.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Holloway, on Dec. 7, 1958. As a young man, Scotty worked for Tommy Robinson, and he and Carol lived and worked on his ranches for many years. Scotty and Carol's children, Randy and Ronda, were born while living on the ranch. Scotty helped build the Tommy Robinson Pond off Lawyers Creek outside of Kamiah.
Scotty loved running heavy equipment and driving a truck. The family moved to Ferdinand in 1969, where he owned and operated trucks. He hauled chips for many years before going to long-haul trucking.
In 1979, Scotty and Carol took over the family farm in Glenwood. They moved onto his grandmother and grandfather Stuart's place. He farmed, raised hay and cattle. Scotty also operated an excavating business, KnightCrawler Construction, for many years. He loved nothing better than running his Cat and took great pride in raising high-quality hay crops in later years. Scotty was an animal lover and a very generous man who was always there to help a friend or neighbor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Knight; mother Louise Stuart; brother Roger; and sister Marilyn.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son Randy and wife Stacey on the family farm; daughter Ronda and husband Bill Jennings of Kamiah; grandson Christopher Knight and wife Anne of Spokane; granddaughter Amanda and husband Thaddeus Baker of Elk, Wash.; grandson Thomas Jennings and his wife, Jessica, of Mountain Home, Idaho; as well as five great-grandchildren: Courtney, Coeli, Layla, Cecilia and David.
