Eva Gertrude Flerchinger, 100, died Aug. 6, 2013, at her home with her husband at her side.

Eva was born April 21, 1913, in Ilo (Craigmont), at the homestead of her parents, Stephen and Theresa Trukokitz. She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, 5 miles out of Craigmont, up through the eighth grade. She walked with her sisters to school each day, which was about 1.5 miles. She went to high school in Winchester, transferred to Craigmont after her sister's death and her bout with pneumonia and then back to Winchester to graduate. She was in Winchester's Catholic Church choir.

After graduating high school, she worked at a business owned by Mark Means and then the Lewis and Clark Hotel. She met Herbert at a K.P. dance in Lewiston in the early spring of 1939 and they were married at Clarkston Catholic Church April 15, 1939, and moved to Peola. She was Herbert's partner in farming and ranching for 43 years, and then retired and moved to their home in Pataha in 1972. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary April 15, 2013.

She liked to sew and gather from her huge garden and was a wonderful cook. Her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family, which included numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert, at home; her son and caregiver, Phillip Flerchinger; daughters Sharon Loretta Lane of Ellensburg and Candice Harrison of Starbuck; two grandchildren, Theresa Taft of Puyallup and Clint Harrison of Lewiston; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jenna Taft, Tyler and Eva Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Anna Trukokitz, Mary Fuecht, Agnes Blimka and Margret Palmer.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pomeroy. The funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Catholic church, followed by burial at 3 p.m. at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston.
